I am a mother of two. A 7 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. We are extremely blessed to have such energetic , imaginative and healthy kids.

I meet a lot of parents who complain about their kids being hyper, energetic. On the contrary one needs to worry when it is the opposite.I firmly believe that children are meant to be like that.

As a parent, I always encourage my kids to be active physically. I make sure their energy is channelized in a positive manner. As my little girl is growing, I see a lot of emotional changes in her. She frequently expresses her desire to organise, be responsible and lead other children . We utilized the spring break for doing this. So my daughter (who I shall call Miss M) and her gang of girls got together to organise a lemonade stall in our neighborhood. And the outcome was amazing. The gang not just made a lot of money but learnt a lot of valuable life skills. They learnt planning, team work, managing customers and handle pressure.

Children are blessed with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. This can be channelized into many productive activities.

Here are few exciting activities that children can do during their summer break. These will not just keep the children busy but will help them learn new skills and boost confidence.

  1. Starting a book club:  The neighborhood kids can start a book club. Every week the members meet and exchange books among themselves. One person keeps a written record of the books being borrowed. For older kids , another activity can be added with the book club. Once a month, the children can talk about and discuss the books they have read. An adult can act as a mentor and help in conducting.

  2. Picnic: The good old picnic is a big hit with children of all age. Its a fun way to learn planning. Ask the kids to plan the place, things to take at the picnic and games to play. Remember to plan the picnic on a pleasant day:-).

  3. Starting a neighborhood lemonade or Mojito stall: This is a super fun activity. It combines the fun of earning money with basics of entrepreneurship.
